Good Turn for Scouting
HURRICANE KATRINA

The Abooikpaagun Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, Blain Croft and Brian Warner have been honored by the council executive board for helping Hurricane Katrina victims. Blain and Brian took the lead in planning, organizing and operating a hurricane relief program at Camp DeSoto. Outgoing Council President Rodney Landes, Jr. presented them with special citations during the annual council banquet.

Thanks to their hard work and dedication, air conditioned facilities were available to persons with special medical needs, or families with children under two years of age. All others were assigned tents with cots and mattresses. Through the generosity of local churches, businesses and individuals, they were able to supply bedding, personal items, toys for children, drinks, and some medical supplies. There was no cost to hurricane refugees.

Blain and Brian worked with several local organizations and churches to provide much needed services. Partners included Murmil Heights Baptist Church, Gideons International, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Community of Christ, Our Shepherd Luthern Church, College Avenue Church of Christ, First Baptist Church of El Dorado, Dr. Robert G. Olive and Coca Cola.
