UNITED WAY GIVES IMPACT GRANT TO CAMP DE SOTO When the United Way of Union County saw the condition of the tables at Camp De Soto, they sprang into action. They have awarded the De Soto Area Council an impact grant to purchase new chairs and tables for the dining hall. "We appreciate the continued support the United Way gives to our council," said Bobby Schultz, Scout Executive. "We are very lucky to have a United Way organization that supports not only the Boy Scouts, but dozens of other Union County organizations as well." The United Way has been a strong supporter of the De Soto Area Council, increasing allocations each of the past four years.

Union County and Columbia County Community Foundations Present Grants For Summer Camp The shooting sports program area at Camp De Soto will boast a few surprises when Scouts arrive this summer. The Columbia County and Union County Community Foundations have each given grants for the purchase of new equipment. The grants will be used to purchase black powder rifles and .22 rifles for use by Boy Scouts and BB guns for the Cubs. 2008 will mark the first year muzzle loaders will be used at camp. "I think it's important to give boys the chance to try new things," said Bob Gundolf, the Shooting Sports Director. "We need to keep things interesting." The Community Foundations are dedicated to improving the lives of citizens in their counties. These grants will certainly help us carry out their wishes.
